The outdoor brand taps into the strength of the Pledge community as it tackles two pressing challenges: climate change and extreme poverty.

Climate change disproportionately impacts the world’s poorest communities—destroying livelihoods, displacing families, and exacerbating inequality. But at Cotopaxi, we’ve always believed business can be a force for good. We create sustainably designed outdoor gear that fuels both adventure and global change by dedicating a percentage of our revenue to nonprofits working to improve the human condition. Our mission is to find sustainable ways to eradicate poverty in our lifetimes. This is only possible through collaboration, determined optimism, and action. That’s why we’ve been proud members of The Climate Pledge since 2022, committing to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The Pledge rallies companies everywhere to decarbonize—fast. That urgency mirrors our own ethos: We can’t reckon with climate change without addressing poverty, and we can’t do it alone. Collaboration makes us stronger, smarter, and better. And by joining the Pledge, we can amplify our impact by advancing sustainability, working with shared suppliers to transition to renewable energy, exploring clean heat alternatives, and advocating for policy that raises the bar across industries.

Advancing sustainability

Every Cotopaxi product already includes at least one meaningful sustainability feature, but through The Climate Pledge coalition, we’re scaling those wins into something bigger than anything that exists inside our four walls. We’re continuously exploring new ways to effectively partner to promote thrifting, repair, and reuse in our industry. Several of our programs—Del Día, Teca, resale, repair, and Guaranteed for Good—directly reduce demand for virgin materials and help Cotopaxi maintain a carbon intensity score of under 1% even in growth years.

Partnering to reduce emissions

As a Pledge member, Cotopaxi has committed to a science-based roadmap to reduce emissions across our full value chain. We’re proud that every Cotopaxi product already carries sustainability features, and through Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program, we’ll soon accelerate our reach and amplify consumer awareness.

The Climate Pledge holds us accountable by requiring transparent reporting and continuous decarbonization while providing shared resources that support small B Corporations—a certification for companies like ours that promote an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. We’re working with other outdoor brands to finance and support shared suppliers in transitioning to renewable energy and clean heat alternatives. And we’ve adopted rigorous criteria for sustainable materials and packaging.

Advocating for change

One of the most exciting parts of the Pledge is the innovation it sparks. By joining, we gained access to a network of like-minded companies driving breakthroughs in renewable energy, circular design, and lower-carbon logistics.

We also get to amplify the broader conversation by raising awareness about how climate change worsens inequality and endangers businesses. Adapting our company and inspiring others to do the same requires strength in numbers.

Our foundation has reached more than 4.4 million people living in poverty. But accelerating climate disruption threatens that progress. Reducing emissions strengthens our supply chains, protects fragile ecosystems, and ensures vulnerable communities have healthier, more resilient futures. Our philanthropic efforts in health, education, and livelihoods are far more effective when climate risks are reduced. Joining the Pledge allows us to multiply the impact of every grant, every project, and every partnership, while ensuring our business growth never comes at the planet’s expense.

Signing The Climate Pledge isn’t just about hitting targets, it’s about living up to our mission. Because at Cotopaxi, we believe the fight against poverty and the fight against climate change are one and the same. And we’re here to win both.
